Originally known as Kara's Flowers, the band consisted of Adam Levine (vocals, guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, guitar), Mickey Madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums). After their debut album, The Fourth World (1997), failed commercially, they rebranded as Maroon 5 in 2001, adding James Valentine (lead guitar) to the lineup. Their breakthrough came with Songs About Jane (2002), featuring hits like "Harder to Breathe," "This Love," and "She Will Be Loved." The album's success earned them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005.
