Originally known as Kara's Flowers, the band consisted of Adam Levine (vocals, guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, guitar), Mickey Madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums). After their debut album, The Fourth World (1997), failed commercially, they rebranded as Maroon 5 in 2001, adding James Valentine (lead guitar) to the lineup.
